ABOUT THE EVENT

PCMGA Members (select SHOW MORE to see ALL the details.)
We will meet at the Jewel grocery store in Chesterton at 8:30a CST and carpool; the drive time is 1 hour.
A $20 lunch fee will be collected as you enter the bus.
Drivers will be reimbursed for their mileage expenses.
We have 2 tours scheduled:
1. Noteworthy Trees and the Stumpery - in this interpretative walking tour, you'll learn about Fernwood's incredible array of tree species, including one tree that's traveled to the moon. We'll visit their new Stumpery garden that showcases native ferns and highlights the regenerative cycles of the forest for both native wildlife and native flora.
2. The Tallgrass Prairie - we will explore the diversity and beauty of Fernwood's own tallgrass prairie and learn about the prairie's establishment, the incredible adaptations of our native prairie plants, how to identify and manage invasive plant species and the history of the prairies in North America.
A box lunch ($20.00) will be served in The Gallery in the main building between the tours.
There will be time for shopping in the gift shop after the conclusion of the 2nd tour.
PCMGA Education funds will pay for this trip with the exception of lunch. Admission fees vary so we will need to know if you are 65+ or if you are a member of the American Horticultural Society as Fernwood has reciprocal admission. The tours will require some walking but accommodations will be made for those who have mobility challenges. In the case of inclement weather (stormy or all day heavy rainfall) we will cancel the trip. We will notify you by 7:30 am that morning or the night before if evident.
We hope you will join us for this exciting day! Reservations are due by Sept. 16th.
Registration closes Sep 16, 2026, 3:30 PM
