WHY JOIN PCMGA

If you have completed the Purdue Extension Master Gardener Training, joining the Porter Master Gardner Association (PCMGA) will keep you learning about and loving gardening through:

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

  • Our education committee identifies and publicizes several free or low-cost opportunities throughout the year to earn most or all of the educational hours necessary to remain an active Purdue Extension Master Gardener.

    • Members have access to the video recordings of previous Gardening Show Seminars as a wonderful knowledge base and and an opportunity to earn additional required educational hours.

    • PCMGA membership allows up to $75 reimbursement each year for fees you paid for non-PCMGA sponsored educational events. 

    • As a member you will receive early-bird information on annual premier educational seminars with a nationally known speaker. Past seminars featured gardening stars such as Vinnie Simeone, Tovah Martin, Andrea Wulf, and Dan Heims.

    • Get priority reservations for our annual day-long field trips on a comfortable coach bus at a reasonable price.

    • Receive invitations to “Garden Skip” tours of PCMGA members’ gardens and to occasional plant swaps when members of dividing perennials or ephemerals.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • Volunteer opportunities to earn necessary hours are communicated and available to PCMGA members, including:

    • Community PCMGA projects.

    • Service on PCMGA committees (many to choose from!) and on the PCMGA executive board.

    • Speaking to community groups and 

    • Gardening Show, Garden Walk., and the Open Class Flower show and Ask A Master Gardener Booth at the Porter County Fair. 

  • ​We make it easy for you to sign up for these at meetings, via the Web, or by phone.

PRIVILEGES

  • The right to vote on matters affecting the Association., or example, which grant and scholarship applications receive funding.

  • Password protected member-only information on this website.

  • High fashion Purdue Extension Master Gardener & PCMGA gear to add to your wardrobe.

RELATIONSHIPS

  • The rewards of working with and learning from some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet! The PCMGA has more than 100 of the kindest, most generous and experienced gardeners in Porter County and beyond. Join us and let’s share our love for gardening. 

  • The satisfaction of knowing you are making a contribution by helping homeowners solve their gardening issues, teaching our youth how to grow nourishing food, improving the environment by sharing your knowledge of environmentally friendly gardening practices. 

  • Help create an atmosphere of solace and compassion by joining the team of Master Gardeners that tend and beautify the gardens at the VNA.

  • Have fun making new friends at two annual PCMGA events. The annual picnic is held in September usually at Forest Park and includes a plant swap.  Our annual meeting takes place in November and is where we hold elections and give out awards.   Both events are wonderful opportunities to share good food and great conversations with fellow PCMGA members, some of the nicest people you will ever have the privilege of knowing.
